Steven John Shafer

Steven John Shafer, 60, of Olney, died on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at his home.

Steve was born in Casper, Wyoming, the son of John and Nan (VanMatre) Shafer.

Steve was an ERHS class of 1983 graduate. He earned a BS in Business in 1988 from

Eastern Illinois University. Steve acquired a State of Illinois Teacher's Certificate in 1991.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Olney. Steve liked to evangelize for the Lord,

fish and go for walks. It’s estimated that he has walked over 50,000 miles in his adult lifetime.

He will be missed by those that knew him.

Steve is survived by his brother, Richard (Kathryn) Shafer of Muncie, IN,

his nephews David John Shafer of Muncie, IN, Samuel Boone Shafer of Tallahassee, FL, and

many cousins from the Berger, Bower, DeLuce, Lukeman, Turpin, and VanMatre families.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Nan V. Shafer.

Cremation Rites will be accorded, and a memorial service will be held for Steve at 10:30 a.m.

on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, IL.
