Sonya Joyce

Sonya Joyce, 54, of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born on September 21, 1970 in Owensboro, KY, the daughter of Ronnie and Marcia (Johnson) Dersch.

Sonya worked at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, where she loved her job and her coworkers. She had many hobbies throughout her life, and she was an avid reader and loved to travel. Sonya was also very proud of her son, Sean, and loved spending time with him. She also had a soft spot for all animals, especially her dog, Addie. Sonya will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.

Sonya's family would like to thank all of the healthcare professionals who cared for her throughout this brief and difficult journey.

Sonya is survived by her son, Sean Joyce of Claremont, IL; her parents, Ronnie and Marcia Dersch of Santa Claus, IN; sister, Julie (Dave) Cosby of Santa Claus, IN.

She was preceded in death by her son, Colton Bender of Santa Claus, IN; grandparents, William and Mabel Dersch and Ben and Hattie Johnson.

An open house will be held for Sonya from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Ophelia's Cup in Olney.

Memorials can be made to Claws and Paws in Olney.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.

Cremation Rites will be accorded, and interment will be held at St. Peters Cemetery in Lamar, IN at a later date.
