Ronald Lee Hovermale, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Ron was born April 22, 1939, in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of John Lewis and Irene (Stevens) Hovermale. He married Donna Jean (Taylor) on June 7, 1959, at the First Methodist Church of Claremont, Illinois and she survives.
Ron grew up on a farm outside of St. Francisville. He graduated from
St. Francisville High School in 1956. After graduating from Eastern Illinois University, Ron and Donna moved to Springfield in 1962, to start his career at the Springfield Marine Bank. Over thirty-two years, he developed into one of the senior leaders of the bank and positively influenced many people’s careers and lives. He retired from banking in 1999.
Ron loved living life with his family, friends, and colleagues. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. Golfing, fishing in Canada, hunting, gardening, landscaping, home improvement projects, and family vacations were all favorites. He was also a talented woodworker and photographer.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Donna Hovermale; son, Todd Hovermale (Patricia) of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Mallory (Wendy) Billings-Litke, MacKenzie (Jack) Murray, and Scarlett, Georgia, India, Grace, John, Andrew, Michael, and Jack; great grandson, Malcolm; sisters Karen Holmes and Rita (Larry) Roan; brother John (Ginny) Hovermale; son-in-law Troy (Laura) Rogers, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kimberly Rogers, and his brother-in-law Harold Holmes.
A Graveside Service will be held for Ronald at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Crest Haven Memorial Park in rural Claremont, IL.
