Richard W. Eckiss, 83, of Olney, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his home.
Richard was born on February 5, 1941 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of Clinton Cleo and Gladys Louise (Nease) Eckiss. He married Lois (Fisher) on August 20, 1961 in Richland County, Illinois, and she preceded them in death on October 5, 2022.
Richard was an honest and hardworking man. He was dedicated to his family and to the farm he managed. Richard was an advocate for the humane treatment of all animals. He drove an animal rescue van, "The Old Gray Dog", for countless trips to Champaign providing dogs to their future homes in the Chicago area.
Richard was on the Richland County Fair Board for many years. He enjoyed being able to help the 4-H kids with their show animals.
For those that knew Richard, he had a rough exterior, but on the inside, he had a heart of gold.
He was also a member of First Church of Olney.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Eckiss-Prieur of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; daughter, Kathy (Tom) Hixon of Claremont, Illinois; siblings, Deloris and Bob Hayes, Barbara and John Knakmuhs, and Roger and Debbie Eckiss, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois, sons, David and Bradley Eckiss, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Eckiss.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at First Christian Church of Olney, located at 1401 N Silver St. in Olney, IL 62450.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney is assisting the family with arrangements.
