John B. Potter, 90, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at his home.
John was born January 19, 1934 in Atlanta, Michigan, the son of Clarence Potter and Clarise "Velma" Bennett.
John married Mary (Gammey) Potter on September 6, 1953, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 1994. He later married Frances (Adams) Potter on June 22, 2003, and she survives.
John was a gentle and soft-spoken man who enjoyed music and dancing. He took pleasure in cutting the grass and tinkering in his shop. John enjoyed going to church at the First Baptist Church in Olney. He worked at GM for 32 years in Saginaw, Michigan and then became a tow truck driver in Saginaw. John later moved to Lachine, Michigan and then to Olney, Illinois because he enjoyed the area. He loved his family very much and never said a bad word about anybody.
John is survived by his wife, Frances Potter of Olney; daughter, Lynda Riggs of Schaumburg, IL; grandchildren, Dan Riggs, Jill McLaughlin, Jeff (Amanda) Riggs, great grandchildren, Nathan McLaughlin, Grace Shuger, Caden and Cameron Riggs; stepchildren, Keith (Lorna) Samara, Tracie Samara, and Taylor Samara; and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Potter; and son, Robert John Potter; one brother, and three sisters.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
A Celebration of Life will be held for John at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Olney. Interment will take place in Atlanta, MI.
Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney is assisting the family with arrangements.
