John W. Mcdowell

John W. McDowell, 65, of Olney, IL, passed away on January 31, 2025 in Noble, IL.

John was born July 11, 1959 in Havre De Grace, MD to parents, Darrell E. and Helen (McLean) McDowell. He married Catherine Ann Deimel on May 15, 1983 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney, and she preceded him in death on January 21, 2023.

John was a US Air Force veteran who served his country for four years as an aircraft mechanic and later worked for McDonnell Douglas. He was an engineer most of his life and after returning to Olney he became the Director of Manufacturing at North American Lighting. He was proud of his work and life travels and talked about them often.

John loved his family with all his heart, they were his world. He made sure to make daily contact with his loved ones. John enjoyed landscaping, picking up sticks, mowing his yard and taking care of the neighborhood animals.

John did not know a stranger and loved to meet new people. The world will be a little more quiet without him in it, he will forever be missed.

John is survived by his son, Darrell McDowell and wife Andrea of Olney; son, Charles McDowell and wife Jordan of Olney; grandchildren, Maddex and Graham McDowell, and Ezekiel McDowell; mother, Helen Zuber of Olney; sister, Patti Corder; brother, Allen (Cheri) McDowell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell E. McDowell and wife, Catherine A. McDowell.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

The funeral service will follow the Visitation time at 11:00 AM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home.

Full Military Rites will be performed at the funeral home following the Funeral Service.

Memorials can be made to the Richland County Recreation Council.
