John R. Knakmuhs

John R. Knakmuhs, 79, of West Salem, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana with his family by his side.

John was born January 7, 1945 in Richland County, Illinois, to son of Raymond Knakmuhs and Mary (Clodfelter) Knakmuhs. He married Barbara (Eckiss) Knakmuhs on May 30, 1964 at Parkersburg United Methodist Church, and she survives.

John and Barb were married for sixty loving years. He was a hardworking farmer and electrician, owner of John's Electric Heat & AC and J&B Farms. He had a strong Christian faith, being an elder of Calhoun Christian Church. He was known for his compassionate nature, giving spirit and witty sense of humor. John’s most meaningful joys were his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and farming. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and most of all, his family.

John leaves behind his wife, Barbara; Children, Janneene (Brian) Moore, Staci Homan, Travis (Daisy) Knakmuhs, and Michael Knakmuhs; grandchildren, Brandon (Whitney), Kali (Austin), Kendal (Satchel), Kenadie, Adalyn, Tyler, Emiliano, and Elijah; great grandchildren, Oran and Mason; sister, Violet (Richard) Judge, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Charles and Bernice Bonny.

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Calhoun Christian Church in Calhoun, Illinois.

A funeral service will be held for John on Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Calhoun Christian Church with Brian Moore officiating. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Moravian Cemetery.
