Jeanette Lowe peacefully passed away at the age of 83, March 20, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN. She was a beloved mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Jeanette was born April 11, 1940 in Elgin, IL. She attended school in Edwards County, IL. Jeanette married Harold Hortin in 1958 and they had five children, Cindy (Jay) Ellison of Olney, Jo Anne (David) Waggoner of Olney, Phillip (Amy) Hortin of Newburgh, IN, Christopher (Sue) Hortin of Crawfordsville, IN, and Jill Rose of Olney. The family lived in Albion, IL, also living 3 years in Hawaii, where both Phillip and Chris were born.
In 1971, Jeanette with "her five" moved to Olney, IL. Jeanette attended OCC, earned her diploma, purchased her own home, and raised her kids with much love and support from her parents Lenny and Mildred Brant. Jeanette worked many years at Embarras River Basin Agency and CEFS in Olney, as well as managing the OCC bookstore.
Jeanette was creative and had many talents. She was very proud of her business, The Satin Rose. She attended craft shows throughout the region and she made many friends along the way.
In 2010, Jeanette married James Lowe of Parkersburg, IL. This was a special and happy time for both. Traveling, sightseeing, fixing up their home, and often entertaining family and friends. Sadly, "Mr. Lowe" passed away in 2016, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jeanette had 11 grandchildren - Taylor, Jordan, Ashley, Austin, Augusta, Haley, Jesse, Matthew, Maggie, Mitchell, and Maryn. She had 9 great grandchildren - Jack, James, Wilder, Alden, Camden, Crew, Lyle, Connor, and Aiden- all boys! - A new baby granddaughter will be born this Spring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Lowe, two sisters, Joyce and Joan, and her brother, Robert.
Jeanette was at peace and content looking back on her life. Jeanette was a spiritual person, a Christian, and she considered her life to be truly blessed even with the hardships through the years. The grass was always greener in her own backyard. Family love outweighed the trials of life. Jeanette always looked forward to brighter days, of which she had many. She always wore a beautiful smile, projecting her positive outlook.
A funeral service will be held for Jeanette at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one hour before service time at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the service Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.
