James Darcy Wisner

James Darcy Wisner, 88, of Parkersburg, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Olney.


James was born June 12, 1935 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Roscoe Thomas and Marjorie (Weesner) Wisner. He married Linda Lue (Keller) on May 19, 1957 in Evangelical United Brethren in Parkersburg, Illinois, and she survives.


James was a hardworking family man. After marrying Linda, he joined the Army as a paratrooper and MP. They lived in Fort Campbell, Kentucky where they had their first son.


After the Army he returned home in 1959 and worked in the oil fields and at the Parkersburg Grain Company for several years. While working, he also farmed full time raising grain and cattle. He raised cattle to this day and the family farm still continues. He checked the cows on his four-wheeler with his dog until he no longer was able.


Jim loved his horses and raising horses his whole life. He would be seen driving his horse drawn buggy for parades and weddings, including the weddings of his kids and their spouses. He was a skilled welder and mechanic that could fix anything and enjoyed working on his antique tractors. He also created and built motor driven toys for his kids and his grandkids.


Jim enjoyed every moment of attending his grandkids’ sporting events and activities. He had a strong faith and was a lifetime member of the Parkersburg United Methodist Church. He helped build the second church after the original was destroyed by fire. He served as superintendent, taught Sunday School and was a youth leader for many years. He was a well-loved man of the Parkersburg community known for his laughter, pranks, and jokes.


James is survived by his wife, Linda, of Parkersburg; son, Darrell (Candace) Wisner of Coatesville, IN; Daughter, Teresa Wisner of Austin, TX; son, Danny (Angie) Wisner of Olney, IL; Daughter, Tammy (Dave) Kermicle of Dundas, IL; grandchildren, Megan (Derek) Doub of North Salem, IN, Jim (Brianne) Wisner of Coatesville, IN, Sarah Wisner (Captain, USAF, serving as an Exchange Officer in Thailand, Anna (Matt) Thrasher of Greencastle, IN, Mariah (Zach) Sandlin of Fayetteville, OH, Rachel Wisner of Springfield, IL, Christina Kermicle of Olney, IL, Keith (Chelsea) Kermicle of Dundas, IL, Kevin Kermicle of Olney, IL; great grandchildren, Chase, Dallas, Kaylee, and Eleanora Doub, James Ryan and Macey Wisner, Gabriel and Avalee Thrasher, Rosalie Sandlin, Bode and Maelyn Kermicle, and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Alwyn Lechner, his brother, Don Wisner, and his sister, Alice Pampe.

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.


A funeral will be held for James at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Parkersburg United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, with a visitation beginning one hour before service time at the church.


Interment will follow the service at the Oak Hill Cemetery, with Full Military Rites to be performed at the graveside.


Memorials can be made to Oak Hill Cemetery or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
