James Leroy Mitchell

Leroy Mitchell, 81, of Noble, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Richland Nursing and Rehab in Olney.

Leroy was born on March 18, 1943 in Olney, IL, the son of Lawrence and Maxine (Thatcher) Mitchell. He married Frances Elizabeth Cook on November 28, 1975, and she survives.

Leroy owned a construction business and farmed on the side. He enjoyed visiting and talking with people wherever he went. Leroy took pleasure in traveling and taking bus trips with his wife. In his earlier years, he enjoyed being outside and hunting with his cousins and uncles and tinkering with cars. Leroy especially loved being around his family. Leroy also had a strong faith, and he served the Lord all his life. He will be dearly missed.

Leroy is survived by his wife Frances Mitchell of Noble; daughter, Kendra Shaw and husband Eric of Noble; son, Kent Mitchell and wife Emily of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Maddy Mitchell, Thatcher Mitchell, Carver Strom, and Olivia Shaw; brother, Perry (Debbie) Mitchell; sister-in-law, Susan (Kevin) Moore; brothers-in law, Bruce Cook and Darrell Cook; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Maxine Mitchell; brother, Wayne Mitchell; mother and father-in-law, Jake and Mayola Cook; sister-in-law, Ann Cook; and cherished dog, Tobie.

A visitation will be held for friends and family from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

The funeral service will be held for Leroy at 10:00 AM the following morning, February 28, 2025, at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home.

Interment will follow the service at Hanna Cemetery in rural Noble, IL.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.
