George H. Brakmeier

September 29, 1934 — March 23, 2025

George H. Brakmeier, 90, of Calhoun, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at his home.


George was born September 29, 1934 in Princeton, IN, to parents Clifford Brakmeier and Marjorie (Moore) Brakmeier. He was married to the mother of his children, Voris (Garrett) Brakmeier, second wife, Patsy (Harms) Brakmeier, and then on December 6, 2003 he married Mildred (Dean) Brakmeier.


George was a lifelong farmer and a mechanic. He was your typical American farmer and could fix most anything. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, especially his grandfather's old McCormick-Deering tractor that he called "Old Mike".


George enlisted in the Marine Corps and spent time in Camp Pendleton, CA during the Korean War era.


George enjoyed living in the country and putting puzzles together and framing them. He also took pleasure in spending time tinkering in his shop.


George never met a stranger and enjoyed drinking coffee with neighborhood farmers. He also had a strong faith and read his bible every day.


George is survived by his wife Mildred Brakmeier of Calhoun; children, Joyce (Tim) Browning of Lakeland, FL; Jodi (Kevin) Luttrull of Princeton, IN; Phil Brakmeier of Ft. Wayne, IN; and Gary Brakmeier of Princeton, IN; step-children, Robert (Teresa) Slunaker of West Salem IL; Dixie (David) Bailey of Berryville, IL; Donald Slunaker of West Salem, IL; Darrell (Lou) Slunaker of Berryville, IL; Roy Dale Slunaker of Mt. Carmel, IL; Leslie (Janet) Slunaker of Sumner, IL; and Brenda (Brian) Powell of West Salem, IL; 13 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Gode; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Voris Brakmeier, second wife, Patsy Brakmeier, and sisters, Catherine Harris and Alice DeMar.


Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.


A funeral service will be held for George on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Berryville Christian Church, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior to service time at the church.


Full Military Rites will be performed at the church following the service.


Cremation Rites will be accorded, and interment will take place at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, IL at a later date.


Memorials can be made to Berryville Christian Church.
