Garry D Ryker, Sr., 84, of Olney, IL passed away peacefully, on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Garry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Garry's love for his family was at the core of his life. He was a hardworking man, retiring after many years as a truck driver from Yellow Freight.
Garry had a unique talent for fixing anything. His hands built and restored countless things, from cars to any household task. He built many homes in the Olney area. In his spare time, Garry found joy in riding motorcycles. Alongside his beloved wife, Janet, they explored the country together on two wheels, creating cherished memories on the open road.
Garry's pride and joy were his three sons, whom he adored. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and took great joy in being part of their lives. He was a member of the Mt. Gilead Church in Olney.
Garry was born on March 12, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa to Raymond and Neenah (Culver) Ryker. He married Janet (Hollis) Ryker on June 10, 1961, in DeKalb, Illinois. She survives.
Garry is survived by his wife, Janet of Olney; three sons, Garry Dale Ryker, Jr and his wife Kim of Olney, IL, Terry Ryker and his wife Debbie of Herrin, IL and Randy and his wife Melanie of Olney. Grandchildren; Wesley (Alayna) Ryker, of Olney, Joseph Ryker of Olney, Brittany Morris of Olney, Brandon (Meghan) Ryker of Nashville, TN, Nicholas Ryker of Nashville, TN and Dawson Ryker of Jacksonville, FL. Great Grandchildren; Will, Ally, Anna, and Addison. Brothers; Dean (Diane) Ryker of Everett, WA, and Roger (Tina) Ryker of Indianapolis, IN. Sisters; Deloris (Wayne) Blackford, Olney, IL and Arlene Shepard of Texas.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents. Granddaughter, Kristy Ryker, Brothers; Jim Arends, William Ryker, Dennis Ryker, and sisters; Helen Goble and Margaret Weber.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, IL with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Loomis of Mt. Gilead Church officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
