Carolyn Murphy

Carolyn Murphy, 89, of Claremont, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Carle RMH in Olney, IL.

Carolyn was born May 27, 1936 in Lawrence County, IL the daughter of Samuel and Bessie (Shank) Palmer. She married Robert "Bob" Neal Murphy on September 2, 1955 in Chauncey, IL, and he preceded her in death on February 16, 2018.

Carolyn was involved with her local community and provided food for many gatherings. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's sporting events and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Carolyn worked as a bookkeeper, and she prepared taxes for many businesses and eventually opened her own tax service office at home.

She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, fishing, and helping the farmers in the fields. Carolyn also enjoyed visiting the Olney Senior Center, playing bingo and going on trips to the casino.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Janice (Ken) Beavers of Claremont, Dianne (Bill) O'Neil of Lockport, IL, and Connie Murphy of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Kaleb Beavers of Claremont, Kassie (Josh) Benton of Charleston, IL, and Nolan O'Neil of Chicago, IL; sister, Mildred "Millie" Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Murphy; parents, Bessie and Samuel Palmer; siblings, Katherine "Peggy" Skelton, Sam Palmer, JR., Dorothy Conour, Richard Palmer, Roger Palmer, and Leonard Palmer.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney.

A funeral service will be held for Carolyn at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park in rural Claremont.

Memorials can be made to the Richland County Senior Citizen Center.
