Betty Jean Lacey, age 84, of Olney, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on August 16, 1940, in Richland County, Illinois, to Omer and Ida Fulk. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Donald Rex Lacey. Together, they built a life centered on family, resilience, and hard work.
As a trailblazing woman business owner, Betty began her journey by purchasing laundromats and eventually expanded her ventures to include rental properties and other enterprises. She had a passion for supporting her community and was always ready to help others get a start. Her determination and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone she touched.
A proud military spouse, Betty traveled the country, creating homes wherever life took her family. She cherished her time as a snowbird, living in vibrant Florida communities while keeping her deep roots in Illinois. She was known for her compassionate spirit, frequently donating to causes supporting wounded soldiers and those in need.
Betty is survived by her grandchildren Lynsie Lacey, Sean Harris, Meika Lacey, and Christian Baker; great-grandchildren Brayden Lacey, Althea Smith, and Sophia Smith; her niece Marcia Nuttall and her husband, Keith; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Rex Lacey; her children, Gary Lacey, Sheri Lynn Lacey, and Jerry Dean Lacey; and her parents, Omer and Ida Fulk.
Per her wishes, Betty will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread, along with Sheri and Gary, at the resting place of her late husband Rex and son Jerry.
Betty's legacy of strength, compassion, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
