Bernie was born on November 26, 1927 in Vincennes, Indiana to Henry and Irene (Turner) Edwards. On August 17, 1950 he married Jackie Keller in Vincennes. He graduated from Indiana State University with a Masters Degree in Education. He was a Teacher, Coach and Principal in the East Richland School District. Surviving are his wife, Jackie of Olney; Daughter, Peggy Copperberg and Jerry of Monroe, LA; Son, Richard Edwards and Peggy of Plainfield, IN; Son, Mark Edwards and Judy of Lexington, KY; Daughter, Karen Kloess and Ken of Columbia, IL and Son, Greg Edwards and Cris of Olney. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Bernie was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in General Douglas MacArthur's Honor Guard. Bernie's sense of community compelled him to volunteer his services to many causes, including Little League Baseball, Junior Pro Basketball, assistance at the Senior Citizens' Center with tax and insurance counsel, member of the Olney City Council and the Olney Planning Commission. He was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association, Elks Lodge, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.
